Hey all, So the last month on the witches circle amino app we have been doing the challenge of learning different aspects of the pagan religion. There are many different gods/goddesses from egyptian to Norse gods/goddesses. I like the idea of learning about different gods and goddesses because the more you learn the better you become and the better you understand that all religions are connected in some way. Today I will be talking about the god Jord who is the Norse mother earth. I picked her to research because I connect with mother earth on a daily basses. I work with mother earth so I thought it would perfect for me to learn about another religions mother earth. Jord actually means earth which I thought was the perfect fit for this goddess and actually made me smile when I found that out. Shes the daughter of Nott the goddess of night and her second husband Annar, whom is a island-giant. Many believe Jord is the ultimate example of the earth-gaintgess, being entirely connected with the fertile earth. Many see her as a 'wifely' goddess as she is very centred in herself and her fertility. She is known to mate with men but she would never centre herself as their partner. She was known as Odin first consort, even giving him a child name Thor before Odin taking an official wife. Many believe that the sky father and earth mother created a more giant like than god like son. Her greatest gift is the state of being completely happy within oneself. She is known to be fond of larger women and pregnant women and mothers. She blesses the mother to be, mothers that are nursing and mothers with loads of children. Jord can call upon fertility of ones self, livestock or from earth itself. Jord is also known with the ability to heal the earth. To honour Jord and make an offering to her all she wants is for us to look after the earth she clearly loves. By cleaning litter from paths or even taking care of the garden she will smile down on you. I personally love how mother earth is similar depending on the faith you follow. I love looking into the Norse mother earth and I have now found another reason to love mother earth and her many different faces through out religion. I will be adding a page about her in my book of shadows for sure. I hoped you enjoyed todays post and I will see you again in the next one. Blessed be x MissDoomie x Comments are closed.
