Merry meet friends,
This week's question is, your take on the wheel of the year. So the wheel of the year is the basically the main points of the year that we as pagans/wiccas/witches celebrate as holidays. Its the main holidays we all celebrated before Christianity took over. Its why some dates and holidays are similar. For me I love following the wheel of the year, it helps me focus on the seasons and what mother earth does for us each year. Its also a great way to reconnect with your path if for any chance you were really busy that month and didn't get a chance to connect with your path much. I do have some holidays I celebrate more than others because they mean more to me than others. Yule is the winter solstice and is in December between 19th and the 22nd. This is the right date for people who live in the UK. In Australia their yule is June between 19th and the 22nd. This just depends on which side of the earth you live on. Yule is also the christmas of pagans. We celebrate the shortest day on earth and honour our horn god in thanking him for his duties being completed. For me I love yule, It was always a time for me to spend at my altar with all the candles lit warming my room up in the cold night of winter. Drinking hot chocolate and thanking the horn god for his job well done. I celebrate both Yule for myself and christmas for my family. I am the only active pagan in my close nit family. Which I don't mind because I prefer to celebrate alone anyway. The next holiday is Imbnolc which is February 1st. Now this one I still dont really understand, I know its important to the wheel of year but for me I never really celebrate it as much. I either forget to celebrate it but still dress my altar for it or I am just too busy within my work life to get around to it. I think next year I will try to make a more important celebration for this and try to stick with it. Then its Ostara which is the spring equinox and thats between march 19th and the 22nd. This is to celebrate to spring coming back to life and honouring our mother for awaking the earth once more. I love this holiday because its always about nature and mother earth waking up. Or thats how it is for me. I dress my altar with fresh flowers and bright colours to celebrate the waking up of earth. I just love this holiday. For Christians this holiday is Easter. The next holiday after that is Beltane or may day which is the 1st of may. Again I dont really celebrate this holiday as much because for me I dont see the importance. I will try to make it more important to me next year and that will hopefully be done by me reading more about the holiday. The next holiday is Litha which is the summer solstice and we celebrate this between 19th and the 22nd of June. This is a great holiday for me because we are celebrating the summer season thats coming awake. The longest day of the year with the sun shining bright above us. For this holiday I dress my altar with bright warm colours of reds and yellows. This is normally in the form of fresh flowers or candles. The next holiday is Lammas, which is the august 1st. This is celebrated for harvest I believe or the start of the harvest season. This for me isn't that important to me anymore because with the world we live in we can get food all year round from all over the world so when we cant grow things here we can import them from across the water. I will make more of an effect to celebrate this next year but for now its just not that important for me. The next holiday is the autumn equinox called Mabon. We celebrate this between 19th and the 22nd of September. Now I love this holiday because autumn is my favourite season, the change of the leaves and the colours of reds and browns. The world getting ready for the colder season that follows. Hot chocolate on the way to work and wrapping up warm. Long knee high boots and the crunch of dried leaves under your feet. Its the best holiday ever haha. I dress my altar with all things autumn, I collect bits and bobs from nature on my walks and dress my altar with items from mother earth herself. The last holiday is samhain which is October 31st. This is a special hoilday for me because its our new year. Its where our world renews with the winter season following. Its where you connect with the other side and celebrate the family members that have fallen. Its where I feel the most powerful. Its like there is something in the air that day that makes me feel good. Makes me feel like I could take over the world if I wanted to. I just love this holiday and I always have. My feelings about the wheel of the year is this, some parts of it is dated but thats not a bad thing. Its shows that we continue to move forward no matter what happens. The earth is always turning. I hopefully will spend more time next year to celebrate all the holidays because they are important to me, I just need to remind myself of that. I hope you enjoyed todays post and I will see you in nexts weeks one. Blessed be x MissDoomie x Comments are closed.
